Clear consciousness and intellectual capacity are usually maintained although certain cognitive deficits may evolve in the course of time.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-default\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g0ea8ab\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e1 section-g0ea8ab gutentor-element gutentor-element-advanced-text centre\"><div class=\"gutentor-text-wrap\"><p class=\"gutentor-text\">Psychopathological features of schizophrenia include thought echo, thought insertion or withdrawal, thought broadcasting, delusional perception and delusions of control, influence or passivity, hallucinatory voices commenting or discussing the patient in the third person, thought disorders and negative symptoms.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-default\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g106fe3\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e1 section-g106fe3 gutentor-element gutentor-element-advanced-text centre\"><div class=\"gutentor-text-wrap\"><p class=\"gutentor-text\">The course of schizophrenic disorders can be either continuous, or episodic with progressive or stable deficit, or there can be one or more episodes with complete or incomplete remission.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-default\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g8fadb9\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e1 section-g8fadb9 gutentor-element gutentor-element-advanced-text centre\"><div class=\"gutentor-text-wrap\"><p class=\"gutentor-text\">Symptoms of class=\"gutentor-list-item\"><p class=\"gutentor-single-item-title\">delusions (strong beliefs that others don&#8217;t share), including paranoid delusions<\/p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><li class=\"gutentor-list-item grid-lg-12 grid-md-12 grid-12\"><span class=\"gutentor-single-item gutentor-single-item-6\"><span class=\"gutentor-list-item-wrap g-s-list-wrap\"><span class=\"gutentor-single-list-item-icon\"><i class=\"list-item-icon fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"gutentor-list-item\"><p class=\"gutentor-single-item-title\">disorganised thinking and speech<\/p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"gma21c697\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-m3 section-gma21c697 gutentor-module gutentor-container-cover class=\"gutentor-text-wrap\"><p class=\"gutentor-text\">Women with severe mental illness (which includes Schizophrenia) who give birth, have about a 30% risk of relapse in the first three months postpartum. A study has found that the risk is significantly increased in women with a relapse during pregnancy or with two or more relapses in the two years before pregnancy.<sup>2<\/sup><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g4e8ec3\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e1 section-g4e8ec3 gutentor-element gutentor-element-advanced-text\"><div class=\"gutentor-text-wrap\"><p class=\"gutentor-text\">In planning care for women with schizophrenia, health professionals involved should take into account the complexity of the condition and the challenges of living with severe mental illness. Where available, involve specialist perinatal mental health services.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g45887a\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e1 section-g45887a gutentor-element gutentor-element-advanced-text\"><div class=\"gutentor-text-wrap\"><p class=\"gutentor-text\">The woman&#8217;s ability to parent may be affected by cognitive and negative symptoms, thus needing additional support with parenting and referral to social services, if warranted. If the woman harbours delusions involving the foetus or infant, a thorough risk assessment, safeguarding considerations and urgent referral to specialist services is necessary.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"gmce8efa7\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-m3 section-gmce8efa7 gutentor-module gutentor-container-cover has-color-bg has-custom-bg\"><div class=\"grid-container\">\n<div id=\"section-g8e05ac\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e1 section-g8e05ac gutentor-element gutentor-element-advanced-text\"><div class=\"gutentor-text-wrap\"><h3 class=\"gutentor-text\"><strong>Antenatal care<\/strong>:<\/h3><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g8fbca0\" wellbeing<\/p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><li class=\"gutentor-list-item grid-lg-12 grid-md-12 grid-12\"><span class=\"gutentor-single-item gutentor-single-item-2\"><span class=\"gutentor-list-item-wrap g-s-list-wrap\"><span class=\"gutentor-single-list-item-icon\"><i class=\"list-item-icon fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"gutentor-list-item\"><p class=\"gutentor-single-item-title\">Monitor for weight gain and gestational diabetes due to use of psychotropics<\/p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><li class=\"gutentor-list-item grid-lg-12 grid-md-12
